About WaterWitch & The Craft of the Wise

Frequently Asked Questions

"Will you cast a spell for me?"

No.

"Will you teach me how to cast a spell?"

Maybe, but only if you're not a psycho.

"How did you become a WaterWitch?"

Take a peek at my lengthy rambling on Dedicating to Water for the answer to this one.

"Do you worship the devil?"

Okay, so no-one has ever asked this one... Here's the answer anyway. I do not worship "the devil". I do not even believe in the existence of the christian devil, i.e. "Satan". To believe in the devil you have to buy into the whole Judeo-Christian nonsense, and I'm just not that stupid. Yes, you heard me correctly, and if you didn't let me rephrase so there's no mistaking what I mean... If you believe in and worship the christian devil, that means you believe in the christian god Yahweh/Jehovah, therefore you are a Christian. Satanists are a type of Christian. I am not a Christian, therefore I cannot be a devil worshipper. (This is one of my pet peeves, if you hadn't guessed!)

What Words Mean

Words have meaning. Tradition, experience and sharing tells us the meaning of words. Let me share with you now the meanings I have gleened for some important words.

Magic - (Not Majick or Magick or Majikk or whatever other pretentious and lame mis-spellings you've seen out there! Using made-up spellings for a real word just adds fuel to the arguements of our detractors.) The use of magical engeries/life force to create change.

Magical Energies - If I could define scientifically what it is I'd bottle it and be a millionaire. (Or maybe write my thesis...) Just think "the Force", okay?

Mage - A person born with the potential to manipulate magical energies. I believe that most (if not all) people are born with this aptitude and that it is a natural (if usually unconscious) part of our interaction with the world around us.

Practicioner - A mage who's been trained or has trained themselves to use magic to change the world within and around themselves.

Pagan - A complicated and controversial word... Let's start with entymology; the modern word Pagan originates from the ancient Roman word pagus and was first used to describe things and people from the country (as opposed to things and people from the city). In scholarly circles "pagan" usually means something that is from or of the classical era in Greece and Rome. The way I am using the word Pagan in this web site is to describe the belief system of people who venerate nature and believe that magic is a natural part of the universe.

Witch - A magical practicioner who uses nature-based and intuitive methods. OR Anyone who thinks they're a Witch. It's just a word, guys. A word that alot of people use to mean alot of different things. I like to think that if you call yourself a Witch you have a talent for casting spells and some sort spiritual connection to the earth and all living things. Many, but not all Witches are Pagans.

Wiccan - A specific type of Pagan religious/spiritual belief system. Example: Wiccan is to Pagan as Baptist is to Christian. I do not identify myself as a Wiccan, by the way (although I do follow an equivalent of the Wiccan Rede).

WaterWitch - That's me! I identify myself as a Celtic Pagan WaterWitch. Meaning; a believer in the Pagan world view and spirituality, with an affinity for and focus on the Celtic mythos (I'm not quite a Celtic Reconstructionist Pagan, but I think they're cool), who has been formally dedicated to explore and serve the elemental forces of Water. Oh, and I'm a Witch.
