Things Morningstar & Moonshadow Can Do
Yes, it's stupid human tricks time. Amazing and unique tricks like crawling, walking, waving bye bye, stacking blocks, and so on. Every baby does them, each baby does them in their own time. This page is mainly presented for our baby-crazed relatives, all others please feel free to skip on to something more interesting, we won't be offended, honest. But for those entranced by each new skill mastered, each new word uttered, each new dance move improvised.... on to the show!
May 2006 -- 3 years old
She's quite the little talker. She says hello to everyone and carries on intricate conversations. Sometimes she sings and often she tells involved stories to her toys.
February 2005 -- 23 months old
OK, been a little busy to update this, but check it out now:
She can climb up into her high chair (she's not supposed to do it unattended, but will), and she's tall enough to stand on a little step stool and snack at the counter, too. She insists on trying to grate carrots to snack on (when she doesn't try to bite the whole thing, which she has trouble chewing, thus the grater). She is also therefore tall enough to wash her hands, if we turn on the water.
She likes to brush her teeth, too, and is getting the hang of it; she does not always just suck on the brush. She is also at the point where she can notice when she needs to potty (often before it occurs), and will go into the bathroom strip naked (to get the sleeves and things out of the way), and sit down on the little seat.
She's memorized several songs (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Little Teapot, most of On Top Of Spaghetti, and parts of Wiggles and Cirgle Round songs, etc), and even sings them somewhat rather than just reciting them. She has memorized several little books, and can recite those to herself as she looks at them.
She seems to have gotten over always insisting that she buckle her car seat herself (making it much easier to do), and she now likes hats. She still loves dancing about, climbing up things, bouncing on the bed, and spinning around until she falls down.
August 2004 -- 17 months old
She runs with a cute wiggle, climbs furniture and stairs, and can climb down also. she can stack eight blocks high, and has gotten the hang of holding the crayons so they mark the paper. She can pick up very small items, and sometimes fits sorter shapes into the correct matching hole. She generally parrots the last word of every sentence we say, as well as she is able (sometimes only the first or last syllable of unfamiliar words).
She has also formed her first sentence: "I'm running!" while, predictably, running. She has also spontaneously started telling us (and the cats, and the moon, and the crayons) "I love you."
We are no longer even going to try and list the words she now knows and can speak, as this would take too long. We'll just try to remember amusing instances of new words.
She continues to get slightly better at brushing her teeth (she still just mostly sucks on the toothbrush, but does scrub them just a bit). She can put her feet into our shoes, and with minimal help, shuffle around in them. She can almost, but not quite, put on her own shoes. She can turn on the boom box and press Play, though she sometimes forgets to push both on and play buttons. She likes TV: Teletubbies, Elmo, Bear in the Big Blue House, Barney, and Oswald. She plays in her paddling pool, and tries to swim (as well as she can in 3 inches of water). She dances a LOT.
Her first social rules behavior: her first "Thank you," and her comforting of the sad mommy.
She likes to hug and kiss a lot. Including kissing the Veevee in the mirror.
June 2004 -- 15 months old
She can say quite a staggering number of words by now. Here are some of them: braca-laca-laca (broccoli), bird, bee (any insect), meow (cat), ruff-ruff (dog), baaa (sheep), Aaaeeeeh (um, dolphin sound), ah-ah (monkey), bath, in, moon, alone, hat, Veevee, mine, nose, eye, knee, butt, toe, no, happy, book, pee, home, hello, yeah, balloon, boppy (brand name of nursing pillow, for those uninformed readers), bong (drum), buba (bubble), blue (meaning the color, but sometimes any object she likes at the moment may be honorarily "blue"), Open Open Open, and Go Go Go!
April 2004 -- 13 months old
The list of words Veevee can understand is really racking up. We did a quick tally and came up with over 100 words that she reliably responds to correctly, in and out of context. She can correctly identify her nose, feet, mouth, eyes, ears, hair, head, tummy, belly button and yoni.
The words she can say are: mama, dada, gama (grandma), lemon (any yellow or orange round object), ava-cada (avacado), mama (matrushka), nana (banana or any food she wants), up, down, bye, tika-tika (tickle tickle).
